Alzheimer Dog

We're pretty sure poor Waldo is getting Alzheimer's. Or he's just getting spoiled with Jesus home all day. That, and I think the cold weather is affecting his poor old joints. It takes him a little bit longer to get up in the morning, or after his daily (hourly) naps. The other day, I headed upstairs to take a shower and called Waldo upstairs with me. He will usually go upstairs and sleep on his bed while I'm in the shower. Or going to bed. Or vacuuming. Or just looking out the window. Bottom line is he likes to be with me wherever I go. He's a momma's boy. Both dogs are like that, actually. I digress. On the way up the stairs, Waldo stopped about 3 stairs from the top, looked around, then sat down. He then turned around to head back down the stairs, saw me, and finished going up the stairs. It was like he forgot where he was going and why.

I had planned on taking a nice long, hot shower and use up all the hot water because Jesus was gone and I didn't have to hear him whine about no hot water. (love you!) So I got in my hot steamy shower, did the whole washy-washy thing and was all ready to stand there and soak it all in when I heard a noise. I whistled for Chica so she would push the door open and I could listen a little better. It ding-dong Waldo barking. At first it was just a woof here and there. Then he started his full-blown seal bark, and wouldn't stop, no matter how loud I yelled at him or what I called him. He also has selective hearing, but that's a story for another time and another place. So I had to cut my nice hot, long shower short so the dumb dog would stop barking. As soon as I stuck my head in the bedroom to see what his problem was, he got the goofy face he gets when he hasn't seen you for a while and was all wiggly. How can I be mad at such a cute face? I love it when he gets all wiggly and has his goofy face on! I know, I'm a sucker.

THEN, after my shower, I brought both dogs downstairs with me, and Waldo went down about halfway, stopped, turned around and went back up a few steps and stopped behind me. I continued down the stairs, and he followed after me again. I think he's losing it. Or maybe he was making sure I was going downstairs with him. He probably didn't want to lose sight of me again. The boogy monster might get him.
